What is Laser Eye Surgery?

Laser eye surgery corrects poor vision by reshaping the cornea (transparent front part of the eye), giving you freedom from glasses and contact lenses, so you can live your life to the full.

A cool beam advanced laser makes subtle adjustments to the shape of your cornea, correcting its tiny imperfections and making your vision clearer and sharper. The vast majority of our patients are amazed at how quickly they recover and the speed at which they can enjoy a life free from glasses and contact lenses.

It's a simple procedure that takes anything from a matter of seconds to just a few minutes, depending upon the level of correction that's required, but you'll notice an improvement in your vision after laser eye surgery which is truly remarkable.

Laser Eye Surgery Costs

At Crystal Eye and Laser Centre we are open and transparent and have standardised all our costs. This is because we do not favour a specific procedure over another as all our procedures we off are extremely accurate. This is also because not everyone is suitable for a specific procedure and just because you are not suitable for one procedure should not mean that cost should be a barrier to get the procedure that suits you best. Our costs include your consultation, special investigations and procedure

LASIK

  • Overview

LASIK (Laser In Situ Keratomileusis) is a two-step procedure. Firstly, a corneal flap is created using an Intralase Laser. Next, a second laser — the most advanced Schwind Amaris 1050RS laser — smoothly reshapes the cornea, correcting the refractive error. Once this is completed, the flap is replaced to cover the newly reshaped corneal tissue and the healing process begins. The eye heals rapidly and the flap becomes adhered within a few minutes.

  • Our Technology

    World's best laser technology

At Crystal Eye and Laser Centre we have the world’s fastest and most advanced laser system.

Crystal Eye and Laser Centre spared no expense by obtaining the Schwind Amaris 1050RS Limited Edition Laser. This is the fastest and best laser in the world today for Laser Vision Correction. We are th only clinic in WA with the Limited Edition model.

The Schwind Amaris 1050RS is the world’s fastest laser. Faster lasers are more accurate and conserve more of your corneal tissue. So, Crystal Eye and Laser use the fastest laser available for all Laser Vision Correction procedures. Laser Eye Surgery is a totally bladeless and optimised to each individual’s cornea to obtain precision and the best possible outcome for your vision correction.

It has the fastest tracking system in the world, so even if you move your eye the laser follows your eye movements to deliver a precise result. The outcome - the best possible vision for your eyes!

    VisuMax 800

This is the latest generation of femtosecond lasers, offering reduced laser time in comparison to its predecessors while making tissue separation with SMILE. We can create the lenticule in less than 10 seconds and complete a flap cut in approximately 5 seconds thanks to a faster laser pulse repetition rate of 2 MHz with a shorter suction time, this can increase peace of mind and reduce stress during your the laser treatment.

  • Ideal For

LASIK is the most commonly performed vision correction procedure in the world, ideal for the treatment of short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatism. The procedure is painless with almost no discomfort.

    No scarring.

    100% blade-free.

    Pain-free with fast visual recovery.

  • How safe is LASIK?

Millions of LASIK procedures have now been safely carried out worldwide. In fact, LASIK eye surgery is now the most common elective procedure for adults to undergo in the western world. The latest LASIK technology means that problems from surgery are very rare indeed. As with any operation, however, there is a small element of risk. The skill and training of the surgeon are therefore critical to ensure that things go smoothly.

Our world-class surgeons use the very best technology and are able to safely treat most prescriptions and conditions

  • Laser Blended Vision

Laser blended vision is a unique and pioneering treatment for patients with reading vision problems who need reading glasses for close vision. For this treatment, LASIK eye surgery is used to adjust each eye differently, so one eye will be used for distance and the other targeted for close-up viewing. The brain usually adapts to each eye, focusing at a different distance within six to eight weeks.

  • Bioptics

For patients with extremely high prescriptions, LASIK eye surgery can be part of a combined treatment known as bioptics. This technique corrects the majority of the refractive error with a clear lens extraction or implantable contact lens. Following surgery, any small residual error can be refined with our advanced lasers.

Bioptics is a rare procedure that can only be carried out by highly-trained refractive surgeons, since it involves highly skilled surgery in more than one field. The consultants at Crystal Eye and Laser possess experience in both lens implant surgery and laser eye surgery, making them the few surgeons offering this option in Australia

  • Consultation

We’ll take you through the process step by step to make an informed decision regarding laser vision correction eye surgery.

  • Procedure

Laser eye surgery is completely painless and the whole procedure typically takes around 10-15 minutes from start to finish. Anaesthetic drops are used to completely numb the surface of each eye. A femtosecond laser creates an ultra-thin flap in the cornea, and the surgeon will gently reflect the flap so that the second laser can reshape the cornea. A state-of-the-art pupil tracking device ensures accuracy and safety. If the eye moves during surgery the laser will follow the eye or automatically stop if necessary. The surgeon will then reposition the flap before moving on to the other eye.

  • Aftercare and Recovery

Aftercare starts the day of your treatment.

No touch, no cut, Trans-PRK Laser

  • Overview

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is laser refractive surgery safe?

This is the most commonly asked question. All surgical procedures have risks, limitations, and side effects. The great news is that refractive surgery has an outstanding success rate and safety record. Complications are extremely rare and there have been no reported cases of blindness due to the procedure itself.

  • Can I see immediately after laser refractive surgery?

The first thing people comment on immediately following the procedure is how clear everything looks. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. As the eye continues to heal, your vision just gets better and better!

  • Am I suitable for laser refractive surgery?

Not everyone is suitable for laser refractive surgery. Depending on certain characteristics of your eyes and your requirements, your surgeon may recommend LASIK over TransPRK or vice versa.

  • What if I’m not suitable for laser refractive surgery?

Worry not! Even if you are not suitable for laser refractive surgery, Crystal Eye & Laser Centre can perform non-laser refractive procedures such as the latest in lens implants to restore your vision.

  • How long does the procedure take?

The procedure usually takes less than 10 minutes. Depending upon your prescription, the laser treatment itself takes between 30-60 seconds per eye.

  • Am I awake during the procedure?

Yes. And the good news is the procedure is painless! Should you feel anxious, your surgeon may give you a mild sedative to help you relax.

  • What refractive conditions are treatable?

All the common eye conditions requiring spectacle correction : Longsightedness, shortsightedness, and astigmatism.

  • How long after the procedure can I drive?

Depending of the procedure this could be 24 hours in the case of LASIK to a couple of days in the case of TransPRK. As everybody heals at different rates, your surgeon will advise you during your one day post-op check up.

What happens after the LASIK procedure?

Your eyes start healing immediately after your LASIK surgery. It is normal that you may experience some blurred vision and fluctuations in your vision for several weeks after LASIK.

Your Laser Eye surgeon will typically see you the day after your surgery to check your eye sight and make sure your eyes are healthy and healing properly.

Regular follow-up visits are usually scheduled for a period of six months, where your vision and eye health can continue to be monitored. In most cases, vision should be stable and clear at the six-month post-op visit.

If there are issues with your vision more than 90 days after your LASER surgery, your surgeon may recommend a LASER enhancement procedure to sharpen your eyesight.

At Crystal Eye and Laser our surgeons wait a minimum of three to six months before performing an enhancement as per recommended protocols. This is to ensure that any residual error in vision is completely stable.

After LASIK surgery, you should take precautions to protect your eyes from injuries. This is true even after your surgeon advises you that your eyes have fully recovered.
